One year ago, Nudie Jewellery launched with a simple belief: jewellery should feel as good as it looks.
If you've ever removed a pair of earrings because they were irritating your ears, stopped wearing a necklace because it constantly spun around your neck, or watched a favourite piece tarnish far sooner than expected, you'll know the frustrations that inspired the brand.
Today, as Nudie celebrates its first birthday, we're taking a moment to reflect on the journey so far, the women who have joined us along the way and why skin-first jewellery continues to matter.
Why Nudie Jewellery Was Created
Founder Sophie started Nudie after years of struggling with sensitive skin herself.
Growing up, skin sensitivities often meant missing out on products and experiences that many people take for granted. Jewellery became a way to express confidence without compromising comfort.
That experience shaped the foundations of Nudie.
Rather than creating jewellery that simply looks beautiful, the focus has always been on creating jewellery that works in real life.
Every piece is designed with comfort, durability and everyday wear in mind.
Jewellery Designed for Sensitive Skin
Many people are surprised to learn how common skin sensitivities are.
That's why every Nudie piece is created using certified hypoallergenic materials and designed to be comfortable enough for everyday wear.
Our collections are:
- Hypoallergenic: suitable for sensitive skin
- Waterproof: designed for daily life
- Recycled 18k gold vermeil
- Recycled sterling silver
- Freshwater pearl
- Thoughtful design features that solve common jewellery frustrations
Because jewellery should be something you enjoy wearing, not something you have to think about.
A Year of Milestones
The past year has been filled with moments we never expected.
From welcoming our first customers and stockists to attending events across the country, every step has been made possible by a growing community of women who believe jewellery can be both beautiful and practical.
Some of the highlights from Nudie's first year include:
- Launching our first collections
- Growing a community of customers across the UK
- Partnering with the British Skin Foundation
- Becoming stocked in carefully selected independent retailers
- Receiving recognition through small business and industry awards
- Meeting thousands of women at events and shows
But the moments that matter most often happen away from the spotlight.
A customer telling us she can finally wear earrings comfortably again.
A gift purchased for a milestone birthday.
A familiar face returning for the next piece in their collection.
Those are the moments that remind us why we started.
More Than Jewellery
What has surprised Sophie most during the first year of Nudie isn't the jewellery itself.
It's the people.
What began as a product idea has become a community.
From monthly Wear Nudie competition entries to messages from customers sharing their stories, the connections formed over the past year have become one of the most rewarding parts of building the brand.
As Sophie often says, the little girl inside her still does a backflip every time someone chooses to wear one of her designs.
Looking Ahead to Year Two
While the first year has been incredible, we're only just getting started.
Over the next twelve months, we're excited to continue growing the collection, developing new designs and helping more women discover jewellery that feels comfortable, reliable and beautiful to wear every day.
We'll also continue supporting skin health research through our partnership with the British Skin Foundation, with £1 from every piece sold donated to help fund vital research.
