If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s this: we weren’t put on this earth to shrink ourselves.
We weren’t born to smooth out our texture, hide our scars, or spend our lives chasing someone else’s version of “perfect.” We were born to show up as we are — confident, raw, radiant, and real. That’s the truth at the heart of Nudie Jewellery — and the reason I started this brand in the first place.
And today, on World Health Day, I’ve been thinking even more deeply about that.
The 2025 theme is “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures”, and I can’t think of a better way to describe the mission behind Nudie. Because when we redefine beauty, we don’t just transform how we see ourselves — we shape a better, more self-loving world for the next generation.
My Why: From Insecurity to Intention
I’ve spent years trying to cover up. I’ve struggled with visible skin conditions that made me feel like I had to apologise for the way I looked. I layered on makeup, avoided cameras, and shrunk myself to fit into a mould I never asked for.
But eventually, I realised that I didn’t need to be fixed — I just needed to be seen. I needed to see myself differently.
So I created Nudie Jewellery as a kind of love letter. To myself. To every woman who’s ever felt not good enough. And to the next generation of girls growing up in a world that still pushes perfection — but desperately needs something more real.
The Problem With Perfection
We’re living in an age of face filters, photo editing, and unrealistic beauty ideals. And it’s not harmless — it’s affecting how we feel in our skin from an alarmingly young age.
A 2023 Dove study revealed that 80% of girls had already edited their appearance online by the age of 13.
That number makes me ache. And it makes me act.
Because I don’t just want to sell beautiful jewellery — I want to help set a better standard.
